Final project – opera

The final project component is the culmination of the AdvArtDip. It forms the centrepiece of the final submission assessed by the examining committee, alongside the written commentary.

The University regulations for the degree state that your work must ‘demonstate outstanding public performance skills commensurate with those of a professional artist’ and be capable of making ‘a significant and original contribution’ to your chosen artistic sphere.

For students on the opera strand, the final project will in almost all cases comprise a performance in production staged by Scottish Opera. The collaboration will embed vocal coaching and group work on acting, physical movement and languages as appropriate.

The project will be supported by up to 20 hours of supervision by an expert in your principal discipline.

Assessment

The performance will be recorded and submitted as part of your final portfolio. The examining committee will make a holistic judgement of the work, alongside the evidence of the preparatory project and the written commentary.

The assessment criteria are as stated in the University regulations.
