Commentary
This component of the programme will require you to write a 5000-7000 word critical evaluation of your contribution to the specialism, encompassing your research methodologies, artistic practice, and professional development. It gives you the opportunity to articulate the artistic intentions that underpin your work and thus lay the groundwork for the oral examination.
The University regulations for the degree state that your work must ‘demonstate outstanding public performance skills commensurate with those of a professional artist’ and be capable of making ‘a significant and original contribution’ to your chosen artistic sphere.
As well as being guided in the preparation of your commentary by your supervisory team, you will take part in a series of seminars that will address such areas as: the philosophy and methodology of practice-based research; critical reflection; research ethics; and scholarly approaches to documentation.
Assessment
The commentary is submitted as part of your final portfolio, and assessed holistically alongside the evidence of the preparatory project and final project.
